Since 1985, we have been providing services and collecting information for the PTO drive shaft market. Although it is difficult to obtain specific application data, we understand the requirements of agricultural tools and distribute parts and components to the three leading PTO powertrain manufacturers in the world today. Namely Bondioli and Pavesi, Walter scheid and Weasler Manufacturing. Many offshore company have copied these manufacturers, so that positive identification of PTO can be very challenging. But please rest assured that the replacement assembly in our warehouse will meet or exceed your original shaft specifications. The following is a brief list of applications. Although different machine companies use different PTO manufacturers, we can always provide the correct PTO for your application.

Use the PTO Shaft Safely

Power-take-offs (PTOs) are used on various machines and lawn equipment. PTOs can be dangerous and must be used safely. For this module:

• Review the information below on PTOs, the hazards they present, and safe practices.
• Demonstrate how to hook up and unhook a PTO properly.
• Wear close-fitting clothing to reinforce the idea that loose clothing is dangerous.
• Supervise workers carefully as they practice hooking up and unhooking a PTO.
• Discuss the importance of keeping protective shields in place.
• Ask workers for examples of possible incidents and preventive measures that should be taken.
• Review the important points.
• Have workers take the True/False quiz to check their learning.

Note: Wear close-fitting clothing. Have workers wear close-fitting clothing for this session.

Before starting the power supply, ensure that the PTO is disconnected. If the PTO is already engaged when starting the power supply, the equipment powered by the PTO will start working.
Be extra careful when operating equipment with detachable PTO shafts. Do not attach a 540 rpm (revolutions per minute) device to a 1000 rpm PTO, and vice versa.
If the shaft does indeed detach, immediately disconnect the PTO and stop the power unit.
Secure the safety cover firmly to the equipment. Regular inspection and maintenance of shields/protective devices may be required. Without these shields, safe operation of the PTO is impossible. Sudden slipping or falling may throw workers directly onto an unshielded rotating shaft. In addition, those who are not familiar with the equipment may not be aware of the danger of the power shaft.
When working around the power shaft, please wear comfortable clothes. Loose clothing may be entangled or entangled on the transmission shaft. Do not step over a working PTO. Sudden slipping or loose shoelaces may cause workers to get entangled in the PTO shaft. Long hair may also be wrapped around the PTO shaft. Hair should be pulled back and fixed. Also, avoid any type of jewelry as they may become entangled, leading to dismemberment or physical injury.
