Type And Mechanism Of Parallel Shaft Gear Reducer Nov 27, 2019

Gear reducers with parallel shafts use spur, helical or herringbone gears. Their input and output axes are parallel. As for the reduction ratio, the primary axis is 1/1-1/7, the secondary axis is 1/10-1/30, and the secondary axis is 1/5-1/200. The general characteristics of parallel shaft gear reducers are as follows:

For high-precision gears, the transmission efficiency is very high. (98% to 95% of the first gear reducer)

When properly lubricated, it can be used for a long time.

It can be produced relatively cheaply using standard gears.

A spur gear reducer is used to increase speed.

Gear reducers with spur gears are usually larger. Compared with worm gear reducers with the same speed ratio, their outer shape is larger and the number of parts is increased, which leads to structural disadvantages. Therefore, it is used for machines with higher load-side rotation, or machines that require higher output rotation (to increase speed) than the prime mover. The gear types are shown in Table 2.1.

Gear reducers with parallel shafts typically use helical gears. They are used in steel facilities, ships, cranes, elevators and conveyors. For automated machines, these gear reducers are also known for gear motors, which are gear reducers with a directly connected electric motor.
