Category: Tag:

PTO shaft is an important component on agricultural tractors, which can provide additional power output to help farmers complete various agricultural operations. Different types of agricultural tractors usually have different PTO shaft specifications and gears, so it is necessary to pay attention to the corresponding specifications and gears when purchasing and installing PTO shafts.

W Series PTO Shaft

The PTO (Power Take Off) shaft is an important component on agricultural tractors, which is usually the transmission shaft connecting the tractor power output shaft and external power output devices (such as lawn mowers, fertilizer applicators, etc.). The PTO shaft can provide additional power output while the tractor is running for agricultural operations.

PTO shaft on Agricultural Tractors

PTO shaft is an important component on agricultural tractors, which can provide additional power output to help farmers complete various agricultural operations. Different types of agricultural tractors usually have different PTO shaft specifications and gears, so it is necessary to pay attention to the corresponding specifications and gears when purchasing and installing PTO shafts.

PTO shafts are usually made of high-strength alloy steel, which has high strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. It usually consists of two main parts: a shaft and a shaft sleeve. The shaft is the main component of the PTO shaft, usually with a circular or elliptical contour, which is connected to the shaft sleeve. The shaft sleeve is a circular or elliptical component, which is usually connected to the shaft sleeve to protect the shaft and prevent external impurities from entering the inside of the shaft.

How to Size Your PTO Shaft?

You can take the following five steps to cut the PTO shaft to prevent it from bottoming out and avoid conflicts between the tractor and transmission.

  1. Find your part number
To cut and adjust the size of the PTO shaft, it is first necessary to understand the part number and specifications provided. Check the label on the shaft to find your part number. For example, part number 14006127 represents a complete shaft named 1400, which is a Bondy LD shaft with serial number 6127 and a measurement of 27 inches.
  2. Connect the parts of the shaft to the tractor and gearbox
To measure the cutting shaft, remove it and hook one pipe and shield onto the tractor, then connect the other to the gearbox. Ensure that both parts are straight so that you can obtain the most accurate measurement results.
  3. Measure the distance between parts
Next, measure the shortest distance between the tractor and the transmission. Be sure to measure on a straight line to obtain accurate readings. This measurement is the maximum compression length that the tractor can operate the PTO shaft.
  4. Determine how much reduction you need to make
Using the optimal length of the PTO shaft obtained in step three, calculate how many shafts need to be cut in order to work effectively. Take the last few digits of the part number and subtract the maximum allowed length. This calculation will provide you with the required cutting amount to match the operation of the shaft with the tractor.
  5. For example, if the maximum compression length of the tractor shaft is 23 inches, and you have a 27 inch shaft, you need to remove 4 inches to function properly.
  6. Cut the shaft and shield to the correct length
The final step is to cut your shaft to the appropriate length. Separate the shaft so that it can access the outer shield and inner tube. You can use a hacksaw or reciprocating saw to cut materials. If there are two pipes of equal length in your shaft, you need to cut both pipes and two protective covers to the appropriate length. If you have unequal pipes, you can only shorten the longer part and protective cover. Once your shaft is reassembled, it should be the correct and shortened length.
